Du’a: To Expect the Best from Allah

When making du’a we should fully expect the best from Allah, and anticipate a response, whether it comes quickly or not. Allah says:

“And when My servants asks you concerning Me, the (answer them), I am indeed near to them. I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me!” (Surah al-Baqarah:186)

The Prophet Zakariyya, peace be upon him, is quoted in the Qur’an as saying:

“Verily, You are the One who hears all invocations!” (Surah Al-Imran:38)

Know that Allah is close to His worshippers, and He is present with them in His knowledge and protection. We should therefore call on Him expecting that He will answer us. The Prophet, peace be upon him, advised us:

“Make du’a to Allah in a state that you are certain that your du’a will be responded to.” (Recorded in al-Tirmidhi)

If we put our hope and trust in Allah, and expect only good from Him, He will not destroy our hopes and desires. On the other hand, if we think he will not answer us, or feel we are not responded to, then we will be treated in the way that we expect. This is why the true Muslim always expects the best from Allah, no matter what their situation. In fact, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, advised us:

“Let not any of you die except that he assumes the best from Allah.” (Recorded in Muslim)

Since we never know when we will die, the implication of this hadith is that we must expect the best from Allah at all times.
