Ar-Razzaq (The Provider)

“I created man and jinn only to worship Me. I seek not any provisions from them nor do I ask that they feed Me. Indeed Allah is ar-Razzaq, Owner of Strength, the Powerful.” (Surah adh-Dhariyat [51]: 56-58)

“Say (O Muhammad): “Who provides for you from the sky and earth? Or who owns our hearing and sight? And who brings forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living? And who disposes the affairs?” They will say: “Allah.” Say: “Will you not then be afraid of Allah’s punishment (for setting up rivals in worship with Allah)?” (Surah Yunus [10]:31)

“Say: Come I will recite to you what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and dutiful to your parents; kill not your children because of poverty – We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not near shameful sins whether openly or secretly; kill not anyone who Allah has forbidden except for a just cause. This He has commanded you that you may understand.” (Surah al-Anam [6]: 151)

All praises be to Allah who is known by the Beautiful Name, Ar-Razzaq, the Provider. He is the One who provides for all His servants. There is not a creature on this vast earth except that Allah provides for it.

His providing is of two types. The first is the general provision. This is the provision that is required by the bodies like sustenance, water and air. This type of provision extends to both the righteous people and the sinners. It covers all of creation including  the birds, insects, the plants and the animals. All of this provision is from His mercy and grace.

The second type of provision is more specific and is a blessing for the believers. This type of provision incorporates what has been appointed for the benefit of the religion, and includes guidance for the hearts. Allah nourishes the believers with knowledge and faith. He apportions this blessing in accordance with their differing levels and what His wisdom and mercy dictate.

Allah is Ar-Razzaq, the Provider and we are constantly in need of His provision, both physically and spiritually. Let’s call on Him by this Beautiful Name Ar-Razzaq and ask Him to provide for us in the way that is best.
