“And that those who have been given knowledge may know that it (this Qur’an) is the truth from your Lord, so that they may believe therein, and their hearts may submit to it with humility. And verily, Allah is the Guide of those who believe, to a Straight Path.” (Surah al-Hajj :54)
All praises be to Allah, who is known by the Beautiful Name ar-Rashid, the Guide. He is the One who guides and directs His servants towards all that will benefit them, and to stay away from that which would harm them. He is the One who teaches them what they did not previously know, and guides them in a way that keeps them firmly on the Straight Path. He is the One who inspires the hearts with taqwa and makes them pentinent and compliant to His commands.
In this world, there are those who perceive and appreciate Allah’s power, and those who do not. Those who do not are reluctant to wonder why they exist or who created them. They don’t ask whether they have any responsibilities toward Him. Instead, they busy themselves with mundane things, such as education or promotion or children. Whilst these matters deserve some attention, it is a great mistake to make them the goal of one’s life. These minor issues often hinder people from seeing the countless miracles surrounding them. Or if they do see these miracles, they shy away from pondering over them. As believers, we may want to guide these people to a better perspective and understanding of the meaning of life, but Allah tells us:
“Verily you (O Muhammad) cannot guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are guided.” (Surah al-Qasas :56)
Those who feel the urge to understand the signs of Allah’s existence and respond to them, lead a totally different life. Out of their strong conscience, they observe their surroundings with awe and acknowledge that Allah created whatever they see. Aware of their responsibilities toward their Lord, the Almighty, the All-Wise, they do what is pleasing to Allah, and live according to His rules and the example of His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him. Most important of all, they realize that each person will be called to account in the Hereafter. It is these people that Allah guides to what is right, those who seek to be guided. Allah tells us:
“And who believe in (the Qur’an and the Sunnah), which has been sent down (revealed) to you (O Muhammad) and in that which was sent down before you [the Torah and the Injil] and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter. They are on (true) guidance from their Lord, and they are the successful.” (Surah al-Baqarah :4-7)
No doubt, to be amongst these people is the greatest blessing of all. Let’s ask Allah by His Beautiful Name ar-Rashid, to guide us to the Straight Path and all that is best, and to save us from the punishment of the Hell-fire. Ameen.
