Al-Qawi (The Strong)

“Those who have been expelled from their homes unjustly only because they said, ‘Our Lord is Allah’ – for had it not been that Allah checks one set of people by means of another, monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques, wherein the Name of Allah is mentioned much, would have been pulled down and destroyed. Indeed Allah will help those who help Him and Allah is Qawi, the Almighty.” (Surah al-Hajj [22]:40)

All praises be to Allah who is known by the Beautiful Name al-Qawi, the Strong. He is the One to whom belongs might, honour and strength in all its entirety. He possess the strength of conquest and of prevention. He promises to use this strength to help those who help Him. On the other hand, if we reject His signs, He promises to use His strength against us.

Throughout history, Allah has sent Prophets and Messengers to all nations to reveal the straight path to them. The Messengers told their people that there is only one God – Allah – and that they should worship Him alone and obey His commands. But Allah informs us that most of them brought His wrath upon themselves by denying and rejecting His Messengers:

“Similar to the behaviour of the people of Fir’aun (Pharaoh), and of those before them. They rejected Allah’s Signs, so Allah punished for their sins. Verily Allah is Strong , Severe in Punishment.” (Surah al-Anfal [8]:52)

“That was because there came to them Messengers with clear evidences but they disbelieved (in them). So Allah seized them (with punishment). He is All-Strong, Severe in Punishment” (Surah Ghafir [40]:22),

When we disregard Allah’s signs, and refuse to obey Him, we deny the fact that Allah has power over all things. In doing so, we are in fact setting up rivals, or other powers (including our own desires) as equal to Allah. We forget that Allah could demolish us and all of our possessions in the blink of an eye. Of those who set up equals to Him, Allah says:

“And of mankind are some who take (for worship) others besides Allah as rivals (to Allah). They love them as they love Allah. But those who believe, love Allah more (than anything else). If only, those who do wrong could see, when they will see the torment, that all power belongs to Allah, and that Allah is Severe in punishment.” (Surah al-Baqarah [2]:165)
