Al-Mu’min (The Giver of Security)

“He is Allah, other than whom none has the right to be worshipped. The King, the Holy, as-Salam, the Giver of Security, the Ever Watcher, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah! [High is He] above all that they associate as partners with Him.” (Surah al-Hashr [59]:23)

All praises be to Allah who is known by the Beautiful Name al-Mu’min, the Giver of Security. He is the One gives the believers security, both in this world and the next. When the believer faces a difficulty in this world, He supports them, confirms His signs in their hearts, and, through the trust they put in Him, allows them to lead a peaceful life. The Qur’an informs us about this type of spiritual support given to the Companions after they suffered a defeat during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him:

“Truly, Allah has given you victory on many battlefields, and on the Day of Hunain (battle), when you rejoiced at your great number, but it availed you naught and the earth, vast as it was, was straightened for you, then you turned back in flight. Then Allah did send down His serenity on the Messenger and on the believers, and sent down forces (angels) which you saw not, and punished the disbelievers. Such is the reompense of disbelievers. Then after that, Allah will accept the repentance of whom He wills. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surah at-Taubah [9]:25-27)

Allah gives His sincere servants security and serenity in this world, but the peace and security of the Hereafter are better and everlasting, if Allah so wills. Allah describes this material and spiritual contentment, as follows:

“Truly the Muttaqun (the pious) will be amidst Gardens and water-springs (Paradise). (It will be said to them): “Enter there in peace and security!” And We shall remove from  their breasts any deep feeling of bitterness (that they may have). (So they will be like) brothers facing each other on thrones. No sense of fatigue shall touch them, nor shall they (ever) be asked to leave it.” (Surah al-Hijr [15]:45-48)

May Allah make us of those who receive this type of peace and security. Ameen.
