“And it is He (Allah) Who gives much or little (of wealth and contentment)” (Surah An-Najm : 48)
All praises be to Allah who is al-Mughni, the Sufficient, Enricher. As we saw in the description of Allah’s Beautiful Name al-Ghani, the Self-Sufficient, Allah is not in need of anyone or anything. He suffices for the whole of His creation, and He has no deficiency of any kind. In His Hand lies the treasures of this world and the Hereafter, and it is He who confers upon our hearts nurturing knowledge and the realities of faith.
Allah is the true Owner of all wealth. He tests some people by enriching their wealth and He tests others with poverty. Those who take pride in their wealth and children, and forget the true Owner are given the following warning:
“Do they think that in wealth and children with which We enlarge them, We hasten unto them with good things? No, [it is a trial in this worldly life] but they perceive not.” (Surah al-Mu’minun :55-56)
Indeed our wealth and our children are but a trial, and with Allah lies the greatest reward. Our wealth is a blessing for us if we use it for good deeds for the sake of Allah. If we do other than this, then it is lost. So if we are blessed with wealth and contentment, we should be grateful, and remember its true source, Allah, who is al-Mughni, the Sufficient, Enricher. If we are not blessed with these things, we can call on Allah using this Beautiful Name, asking Him to enrich us further.
