Al-‘Aziz (The Almighty)

“Blessed be He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things. Who has created death and life that he may test which of you is best in deed, He is Al-‘Aziz (the Almighty), Al-Ghafur (the Ever Forgiving).”(Surah al-Mulk:1-2)

Allah, all praises and glory be to Him, tells us that He is Al-‘Aziz, the Almighty, the One to Whom belongs might and honour in its entirety. This is the might and honour of strength, conquest and prevention. He, all praises and glory be to Him, has prevented any of His creation from encompassing and grasping Him. He is Omnipotent over everything in existence. The whole of creation is indebted to Him and subject to Him and must yield before His Greatness, all praises and glory be to Him. It is He who created this life for us in order to test which of us is best in deeds, and we are nothing without His Mercy. Allah tells us:

“Verily, the Day of Judgement is the time appointed for all of them. The Day when a near relative cannot avail a near relative in aught, and no help can they receive. Except him on whom Allah has mercy. Verily, He is Al-‘Aziz (the Almighty), Ar-Rahim (the Most Merciful.” (Surah Ad-Dukan:40-42)
