Du’a: To Pray with Humility and Fear

Allah has commanded us to pray to Him with humility and fear:

“Call upon your Lord with humility, and in secret. Verily, He does not like the aggressors.” (Surah al-A’raf:55)

Likewise, Allah has described the Prophet Zakariyya and his wife as follows:

“Verily, they used to hasten to do good deeds, and they used to make du’a to Us with hope and fear, and used to humble themselves before us.” (Surah al-Anbiya:90)

From this, we can see that it is important for us to show humility before our Creator whilst making du’a, because it is not befitting for a slave to appear in front of their Master other than in a state of humility, realising their utter dependence on Him and fearing their own shortcomings.
